MADISON - U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan is threatening to withhold Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's salary as part of the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.

Pocan sent a letter to Pompeo on Tuesday that contended Congress could block his pay because the administration is preventing testimony from Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, according to The Hill.

Pocan, a Democrat from rural Dane County, is the co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Congress is investigating whether Trump withheld nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine to pressure the country to help Trump by investigating Joe Biden, the Democratic former vice president running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Pocan backed impeachment even before the current inquiry began. At a town hall meeting in Dodgeville last week, Pocan said Trump had violated his oath of office.
