Leonard was born on November 27, 1928, in the town of Burnside, rural Independence, to Thomas and Catherine (Mueller) Pientok. As a member of the “Magnificent 5”, as the brothers were called, Leonard grew up the “farmer way” valuing his faith, family, and hard work. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 until his discharge in 1957. On February 27, 1954, Leonard was united in marriage to Lucille Buchholz at S.S. Leonard loved working on the farm, whether it be in the fields or in the shop on John Deere farm equipment. Leonard was always teaching something to someone, but never stopped learning himself.
