Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out Friday evening at a nursing home in Glendale.

North Shore Fire/Rescue responded to a 911 call reporting a fire on the second floor of Dycora Transitional Living Center at 1616 W. Bender Road a little after 7 p.m. Glendale police and facility staff began evacuating the 16 residents occupying the affected wing.

Only one patient at the facility was evaluated by paramedics, but refused transport to the hospital, according to authorities.

Firefighters located a fire contained in one room of the building and extinguished it. A fire sprinkler system had already extinguished most of the fire.

Damage to the building is still being assessed.
