8-14-14) Mary R. Weber, 68, of Cashton, WI, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 18, 2014, 10:30 a. m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Middle Ridge, WI. Monsignor Robert Hundt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cashton, WI. Family and friends are invited for a Celebration of Mary's Life, Sunday, August 17, 2014, 1:00 – 5:00 pm, with a prayer service being held at 4:30; at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Visitation will continue at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Middle Ridge, Monday, August 18, from 9:30 until the time of Mass. Cody Bernard Wozney

8-14-14) Cody Bernard Wozney, 23, of Whitehall died on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, in Winona, MN. Cody was born on June 13, 1991, in Arcadia.

Cody was going to be starting his senior year at Winona State University. He played baseball in high school. He loved to fish and hunt with his best friend, his Dad, Mike Wozney, going to Green Bay Packer games and spending time on their hunting land.

Cody is survived by his parents: Michael and Stacey (Cartrette) Wozney of Whitehall, grandmothers: Darlene Wozney of La Crosse, Betty Cartrette of Whitehall, sisters: Jessica (Lucas) Aasum of Whitehall, Jacey Jane Soto of Whitehall, Jenna (Casey) Casella of Ettrick, brother: Jamie Rieck of Black River Falls, great-grandfather: Pete Mish of Independence, nieces and a nephew, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jill Wozney, grandfathers: Bernard Wozney, Bert Cartrette, great-grandmother Victoria Mish, and nephew Eldon Kamrowski.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 7:30 PM at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Private burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in rural Arcadia.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.

Maria Slaby Benson

Maria Slaby Benson of Arcadia, WI passed away on Monday August 11, 2014, at Franciscan Skemp Mayo Clinic Healthcare System LaCrosse.

Maria was born on May 29, 1923, in Czernowitz-Romania. She fled to Austria with her parents in 1940 after Czernowitz was occupied by Russian Communists. In 1950-1954 she worked as an interpreter at a US Army Military base in Salzburg, Austria. There she met Marcel M. Slaby while he was stationed in Linz, Austria. They married in 1954 and moved to the United States in 1957. Marcel passed away May 27, 1963. She re-married to Everett Benson, Mabel Minnesota in 1973.

Maria worked at Arcadia Furniture Industries and Ashley Furniture in Arcadia prior to her retirement in 1983. Maria was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Holy Family Catholic Parish.

Maria’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband-Marcel Slaby, husband-Everett Benson, mother- Antonia Siwicki, father- John Siwicki, and her siblings Stanislaw Siwicki, Anna Zavoianu, Jozef Siwicki, Olga Capec, and Nickolaus Siwicki.

Maria is survived by her children, Barbara Burleson-Krambeer- Postville Iowa, John B. Slaby- Japan, and Debra Slaby - Arcadia, grand-children-Bridget Breska-Arcadia, Adam Kupietz-Burlington WI, Nicholas Kupietz- LaCrosse, WI, Kristen Lindow-Onalaska,WI, Johnna Slaby, Reylia Slaby, Millie Slaby, Betsie Slaby, Tessa Slaby and 15 great grandchildren, Briana, Bret, Nathan, William, Quincy, Caspian, Sunyana, Jocelyn, Drew, Hallie, Kaden, Liam, Maria, Lilly and Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia with Rev. Woodrow Pace officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home where there will be a 7:30 PM rosary. They may also call on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Independence, WI.

Shirley A. Mathews) Gilbertson, age 79, of Black River Falls, Wi died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls.

Funeral services for Shirley A. Gilbertson will be at 11 A. M. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Buswell Funeral Home (715-284-2231) 106 So. St. Black River Falls.

Burial will follow services in the Sullivan Cemetery, in the Town of Brockway. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 A. M. until the time of services.

Memorials may be given to the Black River Memorial Hospice.

Sheldon H. Laffe

8-12-14) Sheldon H. Laffe, 93, formerly of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away August 12, 2014, at Care Partners Assisted Living, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held Friday, August 15, 2014, 11:00 a. m. at Buswell Funeral Home in Black River Falls, WI. Pastor Rod Larson of Eau Claire will be officiating.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. Private family committal services will be held at the Mentor Cemetery in rural Humbird, Wisconsin at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Freedom Honor Flight, La Crosse Chapter.
