A beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Marjorie M. Craig) Nordstrom passed away on Saturday, March 1 at Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls, Wis. She was 89 years young.
Marjorie began her life on May 12, 1924, in Burr Oak, Wis. She attended BurrOakEvangelicalParochial School and graduated as the valedictorian of MindoroHigh School in 1942. She worked at LutheranHospital in La Crosse, Wis. until she met her future husband Chester Nordstrom. The two met in Burr Oak as she pulled the old "can you watch my purse? trick. The two married on Sept. 23, 1950, in Burr Oak, where she spent most of her life as an active member of the church community there.
After their marriage, the Nordstroms lived in Black RiverFalls, where they welcomed the first four of their six children. After a brief residence in rural Melrose, the family purchased a home in the village of Melrose in the late 1950s, where they would become very involved in the community. Marj was a member of the Towerettes Homemaker Club, volunteered during elections and blood drives, and was a fan of the Mustangs as many of her children and grandchildren were athletes.
Marjorie was an avid gardener as she and Chet provided her family and friends with numerous vegetables and berries. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and other crafts. Always thinking of her family first, Marjorie made several family favorites such as lefsa, meatballs, apple pie slices and other sweets. While her husband would spend many summers in northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan for work, Marjorie would pile all six kids in the car and drive them north for family vacations.
Chet and Marjorie traveled extensively after his retirement from Mathy Construction Company, going to many midwest locations as well as Alaska, Hawaii and the western United States. They took an annual trip to northern Wisconsin and fished the local waters. The Nordstrom family gathered at the Melrose home for all holidays and also enjoyed family trips to the Minocqua area for summer gatherings.
Marjorie was very proud of her children, Randy (Terry) Nordstrom of Weehawken, N. J. Nancy (John) Solberg of Onalaska, Mary (Mark) Hatlevig of Melrose, Susan (Glenn) Isensee of Madison, Wis. Terry "Bloop" (Brenda) Nordstrom of Melrose, and Diane Nordstrom of Madison, Wis. and her grandchildren, Travis Cook, Andrew and Alex Hatlevig, Stephanie (Brian) Sullivan, Alyssa Ritter, and Christian and Molly Isensee. She is also survived by her step grandchild, Sarah Denu; step great-grandchildren, Corissa, Matt, and Mike Buttchen, and step great-great grandchildren Jordyn and Breckyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her sister Lori; and her grandson, Brian Ritter. Marj's family would like to thank the staff of FamilyHeritageNursing & RehabCenter for the loving care she received there over the last year.
