Recreation and Development Committee Minutes of January 16, 2008 Print E-mail

The Recreation and Development Committee of the City of Black River Falls met at City Hall on January 16, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.  Alderpersons Danielson, Eddy, Austin, Onstad, and Johnson were present.

 

  1. Barb Brower, Executive Director of the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, reviewed the possibility of a pedestrian/bike trail project to span the Black River in conjunction with the new dam. The engineering firm working on the dam provided preliminary cost estimates of approximately $2 – 2.3 million. There are two funding programs that are being looked at – both need City sponsorship which is what Barb is requesting. There would be no direct funding request from the City.

 

  1. Mayor Hunter requested a maintenance fund be established if this project is completed. He also advised of the problem crossing North Water Street which must be addressed.      

 

  1. It was moved by Alderperson Eddy, seconded by Alderperson Onstad to authorize Barb to pursue grants on behalf of the City as above. Motion carried.

 

  1. Amanda Spangler, Lunda Center Coordinator, reviewed activities at the center including the newly created Lunda Center newsletter. There are several new programs including several fitness classes, scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking. Their 2008 budget will be available for the next meeting.

 

  1. Parks and Recreation Director Steve Peterson and Chairperson Ron Danielson met with the two new Lunda Community Park employees recently to review their duties for the upcoming season.

 

  1. It was moved by Alderperson Austin, seconded by Alderperson Johnson to repair the 2002 GMC Parks truck at the low quote of Dahl’s Body Shop in the amount of $981.15. Motion carried.

 

  1. Mr. Peterson discussed the proposed Fair Park project. The various groups reviewed the plans which had been prepared by Cedar Corp. The final proposal from the Fair Park Board will be presented at the next meeting.

 

  1. The following have been appointed to a Jackson County Ice Arena Committee which will act as an advisory committee to the City Parks and Recreation Committee:

 

Steve Peterson    Mike Kunes

Jill Collins            Mary Nandory

Ron Danielson

 

  1. It was moved by Alderperson Austin, seconded by Alderperson Eddy to approve the advisory board as above. Motion carried.

 

  1. The possibility of adding on to the Parks Shop was discussed. It would have to fit into the City budget.

 

 

 

  1. It was moved by Alderperson Austin, seconded by Alderperson Onstad to adjourn.  Motion carried.
