The Public Safety Committee met at City Hall in the City of Black River Falls on January 16, 2008 at 8:00 P.M. Alderpersons Mathews, Rahmlow, Onstad, Johnson, and Olson were present.
1. Brad Chown, Division Chief of the Black River Emergency Medical Service, reviewed the 8-step process to consider the possibility of upgrading the Black River Emergency Medical Service to the Intermediate Tech level.
Black River Memorial Hospital supports the upgrade.
2. It was moved by Alderperson Olson, seconded by Alderperson Onstad to recommend to the Council to pursue the level of service upgrade to Intermediate Tech. Motion carried.
3. The BREMS January 2008 report was distributed including runs, budget, training, personnel and other business.
4. Police Chief Don Gilberg reviewed his January 2008 report including budget, case load and a summary of their motor vehicle registrations and renewals. The department earned revenues of nearly $22,000.00.
5. The Chief presented suggested ordinance changes based on situations the department has encountered since the City’s Municipal Code was adopted. The Committee will review the changes and consider them at the next meeting.
6.Fire Chief Steve Schreiber presented his 2007 annual report as required by Statute. The report is available at City Hall.
7. It was moved by Alderperson Johnson, seconded by Alderperson Rahmlow to approve the proposed Fire Department By-Law changes as requested and previously approved by the department. Motion carried.
8. It was moved by Alderperson Johnson, seconded by Alderperson Olson to approve the 2007 Annual Report of the Black River Falls Fire Department and the 2008 officer appointments as follows:

2nd Assistant Chief Brad Chown
3rd Assistant Chief John Jessop
1st Captain Mike Muth
2nd Captain Jody Stoker
3rd Captain Matthew Haas
Secretary Mark Nordahl
Treasurer Brad Chown
Motion carried.
9. It was moved by Alderperson Rahmlow, seconded by Alderperson Onstad to reject the two bids received for the 1960 Dodge pumper no longer used. Further, to authorize Chairperson Mathews and Chief Schreiber to sell the 1960 Dodge in the best interest of the City. Motion carried.
10. Chief Schreiber requested authorization to request bids to re-roof the 1982 Fire Department and 1995 EMS addition. Funds have been budgeted in 2008.
11. It was moved by Alderperson Onstad, seconded by Alderperson Olson to authorize the bids as above. Motion carried.
12.It was moved by Alderperson Johnson, seconded by Alderperson Olson to adjourn. Motion carried.
