MADISON……..Wisconsinites have a new way to report concerns about wasteful and fraudulent acts in state government, according to State Representative
Terry Musser (R-Melrose). Instead of trying to navigate the many state agencies alone, they can call the new Fraud, Waste, and Mismanagement Hotline.
The hotline is managed by the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) and enables citizens, including state employees, to report fraudulent or wasteful acts involving state resources such as theft, embezzlement, or inappropriate use of state resources. The information received is processed by the LAB and reported to the appropriate authority or state agency.
This program is similar to the existing consumer protection hotline (800-422-7128). However, while that program involves complaints and concerns regarding businesses, this new Fraud, Waste, and Mismanagement hotline is strictly for state government and agencies.
“It’s a way for taxpayers to have some oversight on how the government is spending their money,” reports Musser. “Many other states, counties, and cities have these hotlines and save millions of dollars through tips received from citizens.”
You can either call the toll-free number at 1-877-FRAUD-17 (1-877-372-8317) or find a complaint form at http://www.legis.state.wi.us/lab/fraudhotline.htm. Callers and website visitors are encouraged to provide any detailed information available so that concerns can be handled as quickly as possible. By law, the identity of the callers is confidential, but if you wish you can provide your name and phone number so the LAB can follow up with you.
Representative Musser welcomes your views on this or any state issue and may be contacted at State Capitol - Room 11 West, Madison WI 53702, 1-888-534-0092 or
