Access To State Parks For Disabled Veterans Print E-mail

MADISON Wisconsin has a new law regarding admission fees to state parks and trails.    According to State Representative Terry Musser (R-Melrose), the proposal exempts former prisoners of war and certain disabled veterans.  The bill, authored by Musser, was signed into law by the Governor on March 24th.

“It’s another way for Wisconsin to honor veterans,” said Musser.  “We felt these veterans shouldn’t have to pay to enjoy the natural beauty of the land they fought for.”    The State Legislature agreed, and the bill passed with bipartisan support in both the Senate and the Assembly.

Musser explained that there were already some exemptions from having a vehicle admission sticker, including vehicles occupied by an adult holding a conservation patron license or a person with a senior citizen recreation card, or a school bus.

This new law, WI Act 165, will add to those exemptions beginning in the fall for vehicles occupied by a resident who produces evidence that they are a veteran with a 70 percent or greater military-related disability or who was a prisoner of war.   The free access will be to Wisconsin state parks, Heritage Hill State Park, and to state trails.

Representative Musser welcomes your views on this or any state issue and may be contacted at State Capitol - Room 11 West, Madison WI  53702, 1-888-534-0092 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
