Expansion of DMV Hours Coming to 92nd District

MADISON – State Representative Mark Radcliffe announced that the Department of Transportation has informed him that DMV service center hours will be expanded in the 92nd Assembly District. The move comes on the heels of the Voter ID requirement passed by Republicans in the legislature.

“While I was opposed to voter ID as I am familiar with many elderly folks in my largely rural district that don’t have driver’s licenses and am afraid they are disenfranchised by the law, the expansion of DMV hours is welcomed as a way to give rural residents expanded access to ID’s,” said Radcliffe. “According to our DOT liaison, Monroe County’s only service center which is located in Tomah will have its hours expanded by 12 hours per week; Jackson County’s only service center which is in Black River Falls will have it’s hours expanded by 17.75 hours per week; in Clark County the Neillsville office will increase 14.25 hours per week; and in Eau Claire County a new service center will open on the south side of Eau Claire and be open 20 hours per week,” said Radcliffe.

“I worked extremely hard in the 2009-2010 biennium to fight to keep our rural DMV’s open amidst calls for their closure. This expansion of hours is recognition by the State that rural communities deserve reasonable access to DMV services without having to drive to a big city and stand in line all day, which is impractical for the elderly and working people. I am glad to see my fight for rural Wisconsin has not gone unnoticed,” said Radcliffe.
