MADISON – Representative Mark Radcliffe of Black River Falls commended the 27 industry organizations that have shown their concern for the future of agricultural education programs in Wisconsin by asking Assembly Agriculture Committee Chair Rep. Lee Nerison of Westby to convene an informational hearing on the impact of potential and proposed cuts to agricultural education programs statewide.
“I join these Wisconsin businesses and associations in recognizing the importance of maintaining agricultural education programs in our high schools. Wisconsin has long been recognized worldwide for our leadership and excellence in various agricultural areas, and we risk losing these traditions if students can’t take agriculture classes or be involved in the Future Farmers of America (FFA),” said Radcliffe.
In addition to loss of agricultural education programs, students would lose the benefits of involvement in FFA. In order to have a chapter of FFA, the school must have a licensed agricultural education teacher as an advisor.
“I thank the FFA and these Wisconsin businesses for standing up for our children and the future of Wisconsin. I again call on Rep. Nerison to convene this hearing to explore what these cuts mean for the future of agriculture in Wisconsin,” concluded Radcliffe.
