Twitter founder and creator, Jack Dorsey, has created a new company. His new company is called Square and is aimed to revolutionize the way individuals and small business can accept payments.
Maybe you are charging an entry fee or have a booth at a craft show or just a small businees that doesn't have credit card processing yet. Or if you do accept cards it's not as easy accepting credit cards when your away from your register or Internet connection.
This is where Square comes in. All that is needed is a smart phone. Currently iPhone and Android are supported with Blackberry in development. Download the app to your phone, setup an account with Square. Supply Square with information for bank account, FIN and SSN and mailing address and Square will send you the very small card reader that plugs into the audio jack for free. Now when someone needs to pay your business you can type in the ammount, swipe the customers card, a screen is presented to them for signature and an email receipt is sent to the customers supplied email address.
Now imagine the possibilities. Even indivduals can get the free card reader and app. There are no setup fees or monthly fees. Square operates similar to PayPal in that fees are collected on transactions at the end of the day.
