BLACK RIVER FALLS – Representative Mark Radcliffe (D-Black River Falls) released the following statement regarding the Senate Education Committee approving his Technical Education High School Diploma legislation:

“Today, the Senate Education Committee took up my Technical Education High School Diploma bill, and I was pleased to see that the members of the committee approved the bill for passage.  The bill authorizes a school board to grant a technical education high school diploma to a pupil if they meet the district graduation requirements and successfully complete a technical education program, such as welding or certified nursing assistant.  This bill meets a critical need in our state to help train a highly skilled workforce.  I look forward to working with our educators, school districts, business leaders, and fellow legislators to pass this bill into law.”

“When I speak with high school students many say that they would take advantage of such a technical education diploma program while in school. This bill will give schools options in education and offer many students the chance to learn a trade while in school.  They can then use this to help market themselves to employers who have told me they fully support the idea.  Under this bill, businesses will have more incentive to reinvest in schools given that the students will be able to learn skills that the businesses need their employees to have. In order to compete in a rapidly changing global economy and bring jobs back to Wisconsin, we need a skilled workforce and this bill is a piece of that puzzle.”
